Overview

A little further South is Lampang, another very old town, believed to have been founded in the 7th century. The city played an important role in the Mon Kingdom Hariphunchai and later became part of the Lanna Kingdom.

Itinerary


Pick up from hotel lobby and depart to Lampang Town by road (1½ hours drive) along picturesque scenic routes passing several beautiful northern mountains. On the way visit to Phrathat Lampang Luang Temple; the northern finest temple and best presentation of wooden Lanna style architecture.

Arrive to Lampang town and visit to Dhanabadee Ceramic Museum, the legend of chicken bowl and ceramic of Lampang. The museum will show how was established, the original chicken bowl and the history of ceramics manufacturing in Lampang and Thailand.

Lunch served at the local restaurant.

Continue to visit Chai Mongkhon Temple; the notable is the Kuti (monk's living quarters) which is a white cement building with Burmese-style wooden roof. Inside is housed a bronze Buddha statue of fine workmanship cast in Mandalay, Myanmar.

Pa Fang Temple; the Burmese Style temple built in 1892 during the reign of King Rama IV has a large, glittering gold Chedi containing a Holy Relic brought over from Myanmar around 1906. The extensive preaching hall is made entirely of wood with Burmese-style overlapping roofs.

Sri Rong Mueang Temple
, the Burmese Style temple built in 1904 during the time when Lampang was the commercial and forestry centre. Major architectural works include the Viharn made of wood with several overlapping gables in the Burmese style.

Pong Sanook Temple; one of very important temple of Lampang built during the reign of King Anantayot in 1223 BE or AD 680 at the same time that Lampang was founded. The temple received its name from the people of Chiang Saen, who migrated to this area.

Then explore the city with a unique colorful Horse Carriage, sightseeing around the city center passing the northern Thai & Burmese style houses.

Then transfer back to Chiang Mai.
